My Quarantine Gadget Project

A long time ago I saw this video on YouTube in which Andy Elliot created an “infinity mirror” with a strip of LED tape, a mirror, and a one way mirror. I thought that it looked really cool and wanted to make one. Eventually I started collecting the parts for it and now during quarantine I finally took the time to start constructing it. In order to put my own spin on the project, I am planning on building a shelf around the mirror to display stuff at a focal point in my room.

The construction of the mirror itself was actually very simple. All you need is a section of mirror and a section of one way mirror the same size. Then you build a frame around the mirror about an inch or two above the surface of the mirror that can hold the one way mirror. The last major step is adding the LED tape around and adhering it to the inside of the frame material. Most LED tape comes with an adhesive back, mine did, but if not glue would work fine as a substitute. You do need to leave a channel in the frame for the power cord to run out of. That's it, just plug it in and hang it.

I was fairly surprised with how well it turned out. It is a relatively simple project so there is not much to mess up. I was also surprised with how well it works with other lights on or while the Sun is out, but the effect still worked pretty well. As an added bonus, most LED tape systems are programmable. They usually come with a remote that allows you to change their color, brightness, or program a sequence of colors to fade between. Even if you don’t decide to make this project, LED tape lights are very handy to have around for easy customizable lighting in any situation you want.
